MY DESK

MY DESK

Roger A. Davis

My desk is a place to meditate
At first, the heart ruminates
It could be about the past, the present or the future
Then comes forth an idea that touches me as a spiritual, healing suture
I have, for the most, been absent from you web page friends
Months and months of pain, I have sustained
Many wonder would I on this earth remain
Though I’m lame and bruised
All of God’s works leave me mirthfully amused
Gained an appreciation for the homeless through loss
Though there are some out there who think we should be garbage to be tossed
I know for a fact He wastes not a thing
Leftovers and broken-hearted lovers are His special thing
I have come back from the dead, so to speak
Hoping and praying that I never again get that weak

CURIOSITY KIDS

CURIOSITY KIDS

Roger A. Davis

I’ve got a friend who works for me - James is his name

He is blessed with childhood curiosity which makes us a special pair
Because I also have the same love affair
We will pick up a rock from the ground, or look for treasures in the trash
Exciting is to find a penny or any cash

Garage sales are our theme parks
All over Lawrence, we will be happy as larks
Our house is a museum and James is the caretaker
I am the cook and the candlestick maker

Every day is Christmas to us
Though we experience negatives, we count it all a plus
So, welcome to Santa’s house and his elf
Because we think everybody is top shelf

Dedicated to James Campbell, my devoted friend

THIS WE KNOW

THIS WE KNOW

Roger A. Davis

Edison’s bulb
Einstein’s bomb
And the new products will be made with atoms, particles and space plus light
The unknown author says,
“It all comes from my creation throne”

Michael Crichton at his desk having these thoughts
Hey! This would be a great movie
Knowing the book will be a best seller sold in lots
I can see it now, a comedy with Whoopi

CHALK BOARD

CHALK BOARD

Roger A. Davis

Slate is clean
But on the flip over back is the most artistic scene
Who works at this school?
A new Rembrandt?
I was sent in to brush off the chalk
But can’t move or talk
The beauty, the colors and the rainbow have taken me into their tow
I have been drawn into the work
It is a scene from a Sierra park

RECYCLED

RECYCLED

Roger A. Davis

The full recycle bin
Who is coming to make this matter new as a pin?
It is the author of ages old
To incorporate the daily grind, victories, new successes and a few failures into a different mold

Question: Will it pass the Good Housekeeping test?
Wait! The author found an article that can’t be consumed
That being the original intention
Whether a given gift to another or self, for that there is no tomb

BLACK ICE

BLACK ICE

Roger A. Davis

Licorice snow cone
Slurp, slurp, and then
A very delightful moan
This sets today’s tone

Oh! How is this day going to be?
I think it’s in my attitude, you see
I’m not allowed to dwell on the past or I get blue
And not too many moments in the future because it’s new

So I live for the moments
This I have
Family, friends and love
And I know it comes from above
