PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE

PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE

Roger A. Davis

Publishers Clearing House called yesterday
I decided to have fun and play
Eligible for 25K and another prize
Thus began the lies
I knew their motive – sell magazines
I told them I had wealth beyond means
They said, ‘Have you been to Hawaii, though?’
My response, ‘Five times, don’t you know’
‘Well, how about a new truck?’
‘Don’t need it, got bucket seats of luck’
She gave up and said goodbye
Do you agree this was a brilliant white lie?

EIKO'S PROSE

EIKO’S PROSE

Roger A. Davis

Spunk and grit and wit
Thinking of you, here I sit
Thanks for the visit, sister
From your little Buddha mister
Counting the moments to see you guys again
My California sister-friends
My family relishes news of what’s going on in the West Coast
Knowing me, our relationship is one of my main boasts
I hold you dearly in my heart
You spunky little sweet tart

ROBERT TAYLOR

ROBERT TAYLOR

Roger A. Davis

Met a man today who knew many experiences
Yet, joy was his entrée
He served to me stories that included flashes of Wilt “The Stilt”
How do you top that?
By making him laugh
Easy for me, being so daft
One hour on a park bench
Rid the world of its horrid stench
Thank you, Mr. Taylor
From he who can swear like a sailor

DEPENDS

DEPENDS

Roger A. Davis

Wearing Depends, having trouble in the pool’s deep end
It’s hell, my friend
My new home in Lawrence, KS on Comet Lane
Still putting out that country boy refrain
Though it might be a little more profane
Got freed up from Eden Prairie
To speak my mind is no longer scary
So in the days to come, if it offends
At least you don’t need Depends

YARD BARBER

YARD BARBER

Roger A. Davis

Cut the grass
Plant the sod
This is the Word of God
He brings the rain and the storm
All is in His form
We are the branches
He is the vine
He is grasping onto us
To be Devine

BEARDED FAT LADY OF THE CIRCUS

BEARDED FAT LADY OF THE CIRCUS

Roger A. Davis

My dad says this in jest
‘When I was a little girl …’

I’m bearded
I’m fat
Life for me is a circus
My body parts are more girl-like than man
So I decided to charge admission
Now, do I hint a note of suspicion?
Is it the price?
Guaranteed you’ll visit this tent more than twice
Three rings with all the animals and with clowns thrown in for free
Come and have fun with me

ZEN IS ONE

ZEN IS ONE

Roger A. Davis

Our garden has one rock, one piece of sand
In one oyster is a pearl
One hellacious hourglass figure
One day, she opens her lips
One grain left of time
Zen, the grace of a woman
