LAYMAN GATHERINGS

LAYMAN GATHERINGS

Roger A. Davis

This is a poem about our family tree
Descendants of Stella and Jc
Particularly, reunions at the sisters’ addresses
An older time, without today’s many stresses

My generation remembers the meals at farms and towns
Kingman, Hutchinson, Harper and Attica, to name a few
And in later years, Arlington, too
Times of fellowship and jest, where all were a welcomed guest

The uncles swapping stories of present and past
Albert, Charles, L.H. and Lester, just part of the cast
Children and grandchildren multiplying through the years
And, yes, sadly losing some of our dears

It seems we Laymans were given a special DNA.
A zealous work ethic even in our hobbies and play
Our ancestors, those Sego pioneers
Have passed it down through these many years

Parts of the families are still meeting each year
A time for catching up and honoring those we love so dear
Grace said at meals is our traditional way
Potluck and faith, may it always be like this, we pray

Yet, for many of us, we look to that future event
The heavenly reunion with Jesus and our past love ones present
We will get to thank Stella and Jc
For such a special and loving family tree
